A chapel has stood on the site of St Mary's since the founding of the Cistercian Abbey of Vale Royal on 2nd August 1277. Now only one stone of the abbey remains, but the chapel at the gate of the Abbey - the gate of the white monks - is a thriving Anglican middle catholic parish church. It holds word and sacrament closely together and sees this as paramount to the proclamation of the Gospel. In 2002 we celebrate the 725th anniversary of Christian worship, work and witness at St Mary's.
Prayer, the sacraments and the Bible undergird the work of this parish in its mission to all and in the maintenance of its buildings. This lively family church is one of the finest in the Vale Royal and welcomes visitors. Services ar both contemporary and traditional (Common Worship at 0930 and traditional Book of Common Prayer at 1830). There is a strong choral tradition in a mixed choir for all voices. A sound amplification system provides a hearing loop. There are many children and young people in this parish. Sunday School meets each Sunday during the 0930 service.
