FIRST BPATIST CHURCH JONESVILLE

After over a year of searching God has led our search committee to a new minister to youth for our church. Gerald Reeves will begin serving in this position on May 24. The committee made a unanimous recommendation that the church call Gerald. The church then voted unanimously to extend a call to Gerald. He and his wife, Jennie, have accepted this position. Gerald will give leadership to the total youth ministry of our church. We thank God for his leadership in this area of our church life.

MAY - THE MONTH FOR THE FAMILY AT FIRST BAPTIST

The month of May is proving to be a busy but a frutiful month for First Baptist Church. We are making a major emphasis on the Christian family during the month. We have already emphasized the importance of Senior Adults to our church. This was done with a special service last Sunday morning. Our children's choir sang and played the hand bells to express appreciation for our Senior Adults. Our pastor cooked and served forty eight senior-adults at a special dinner on Thursday night, May 6. He was assisted by Renae Kelly, Betty Taylor and Deacon David Wade. The program was presented by Mickey Bounds, pastor of Trinity Baptist Church in Vicksburg, Mississippi. Mickey does Cajun Humor. Everyone enjoyed his presentation.

The ladies were treated to Breakfast with the Pastor on Saturday morning, May 8. Around 65 ladies came and ate breakfast that was prepared by our pastor and one of our deacons, Ronnie King. It was a great time of fellowship and eating. On Sunday May 9 the church recognized all ladies in the service and honored the mothers who were present. We will also have a Parent/Baby Dedication time during this service. Each lady present for the service will be presented with a gift.

Sunday May 16 we will recognize and honor our graduating seniors. This year our church has three who will graduate from Block High School. These three will be recognized in the morning service Sunday, May 16. The three are Shannon Holland, John Austin Colclasure and Scott Smith. These will receive a gift from the church and then be treated to a graduates dinner on Tuesday evening, May 18.

The fourth Sunday, May 23, will be family day in our church. The morning sermon will center on the family as God has designed the family. That night we will have a renewal of marriage vows by couples who want to participate. In the morning service special recognition will be given to the couple married the longest and the couple with the most immediate family members present in the service.

The last Sunday or the month we will celebrate freedom as we observe Memorial Day. The morning sermon will be, "What Price Freedom?" That evening we will have a family style meal for all who want to attend.

SCRIPTURE VERSE FOR THE WEEK

"He that wasteth his father, and chaseth away his mother, is a son that causeth shame, and bringeth reproach." {Isaiah 19:26 KJV}

HYMN OF THE WEEK

GOD GIVE US CHRISTIAN HOMES

God, give us Christian homes!
Homes where the Bible is loved and taught
Homes where the Master's will is sought
God, give us Christian homes, God,give us Christian homes.

God, give us Christian homes!
Homes where the father is true and strong,
Homes that are free from the blight of wrong
God, give us Christian homes; God give us Christian homes.

God, give us Christian homes!
Homes where the mother, in caring quest,
Strives to show others Your way is best,
God, give us Christian homes; God, give us Christian homes!

God, give us Christian homes!
Homes where the children are led to know,
Christ in His beauty who loves them so,
Homes where the altar fires burn and glow,
God, give us Christian homes; God give us Christian homes.

OUR PASTOR'S MINISTRY

God's Word is a major emphasis in our worship services each week. During May our pastor is sharing with us from God's Word the truths about the Christian family. Last Sunday's message was a challenge for us to prepare for our Senior Adult years and to commend senior adults for their faithfulness and dedication. The sermons for the remainder of the month, during morning worship services, will be a message to the ladies and mothers of our church; a special sermon for our high school graduating seniors; a message on the value of the family and the final Sunday will be on the price of freedom.

THE NEWEST MINISTRY OF OUR PASTOR is in the form of the publication of his new book. The title of the book is Some Things Worth Remembering. Information for ordering a copy of this book may be obtained by E-mailing our pastor at the above E-mail address. The book is a series of short stories from his personal experience in life and lessons learned from these experiences. The response to this publication has been excellent. The supply of his book is limited and if you want one you are encouraged to contact him soon for information on obtaining your copy.

WEDNESDAY EVENING BIBLE STUDY
Our pastor continues to lead our church family through the exciting study of the book of Acts. The response in the last few weeks has been most encouraging as there is an evident hunger for this kind of Bible study among some of our people. Come and join our church family in this study of a part of God's Word.
