Coddle Creek was organized in 1753 as an Associate Presbyterian Church. In 1782 when the Associate Presbyterians and the Reformed Presbyterians united, the congregation became an ARP Church. Today Coddle Creek is one of the oldest existing ARP Churches. There have been 3 Houses of Worship. The first was believed to have been built on a tract of land given as a grant from the King of England. The second building was erected in 1839 and burned in 1884. The present Sanctuary was built in 1884. The Session House was constructed in 1881. The cemetery dates back to the 1750s. The oldest legible stone has a death date of 1757. Other stones with no writing on them are said to be older. A Slave Cemetery is also located on the property. A Cemetery Directory containing the names of those buried in the cemetery and the information found on their stones can be had by contacting the church. Coddle Creek has established at least 4 other congregations. They include the Bethesda AME Zion Church, Mooresville, around 1871; the Mooresville ARP Church in 1885 and again in 1896; the Lakeside Fellowship ARP Church, Mooresville, in 1985; and the Christ Church, ARP, in Denver, NC, in 2006.
