Byers Avenue United Methodist Church is an exciting church that blends traditional worship existing of a beautiful pipe organ, bell choirs, chancel choirs and traditional liturgy with contemporary worship and teaching that reaches people today. Our new early service, "The Celebration Service" takes place in our New Life Center and offers a Praise Band, informal worship and praise, drama, and times for interaction and prayer. The Word of God is central to our purpose and teaching and numerous short-term Bible Studies take place at different times. We are committed to our community and our vision of sharing God's love with the people of Joplin and the surrounding area. We are reaching out in evangelism and ministry. We are a servant people who desire to not only share the Gospel of Jesus Christ with a hurting world, but also to meet their physical and emotional needs as well. Youth and children are high priorities in our church and our New Life Center activities building affords them many opportunities for recreation, fellowship and spiritual growth. Our "Noah's Ark Preschool" is widely acclaimed for preparing children for school as well as giving them a good understanding of God's love and care. Our music program is superb. Hal Barlow has been our director for over three decades and each Sunday we are blessed with special music that prepares us for worship and praise. Additionally, our Victory Singers perform several musicals a year bringing contemporary music and drama to our church. Wednesday Night Dinners are open to the public from 5:00 to 7:00 PM. The cost is minimal, $3.00, and a great meal is served at a small price. Each person coming receives a ticket and after six meals are purchased, the sixth meal is free! Children eat free or half-price. These meals are a great way for people to get acquainted, feed their families a complete, nutiricious meals for little money, and be able to attend the evening's events at the church very conveniently. Each year the "Fall Fiasco" is a great program of comedy, song and great food. This is the church's yearly dinner theater and it is something not to be missed! The church recently completed a professional stage in the New Life Center that makes events such as the Fall Fiasco great entertainment of high quality. Above all, we are a friendly church who seek to share Christ's love with others. We are ready and willing to open our arms and our hearts to newcomers and those seeking a closer relationship with Christ and others.
