Greetings in the name of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ! We are a church where Jesus Christ is Lord! We invite you to visit with us if you are in Southeast Alaska. The Native Alaskan village of Kake is nestled on the Northwest corner of beautiful Kupreanof Island. The scenery is magnificent -- and so is the inner beauty of the people.
Our church is entering is 86th year of service to the Tlingit tribe, a First Nation's people who have inhabited this area for many, many years. The Tlingits are know for their fantastic dances, their expressive art, and theri awe-inspiring totem poles. THe world's tallest totem pole carved from a single tree is in Kake -- 137 and 1/2 feet high, towering above the village.
Kake Memorial is reaching out to hte village in a number of ways, striving to help people with the problems of life. We have a special focus on the tragedies of substance abuse, suicide and family violence. Recenlty we were involved in a local screening of the award winning film "Carved from the Heart." It is a film that deals eloquently with the problems generated by intergenerational grief.
We will appreciate your prayers for our church and our village. If you have a prayer request, we will be glad to pray with you via e-mail. Just contact us -- pchurch@seaknet.alaska.edu. We promise to email you back and to keep you and your situation in prayer!
God bless you! Keep the faith in Jesus Christ!
Pastor Glenn Wilson
Our historic sanctuary is the oldest public building in Kake. Built in 1929, it is a stately, wonderful old building that is rich in history. As one minister put it "its very walls are seeped with prayers!"
But we are in need of a new roof to replace the original one. ELder Clarence Jackson is in charge of our building project. Donations of money or pledges of materials may be made via email or to: P.O. Box 501, Kake,Alaska. All checks should be made payable to: Kake Presbyterian Church. Thank you!
