A Dream Come True
In 1976 a few people had a vision of starting a Southern Baptist Church in our area of South West Pike County Ky. After much prayer and believing God and through faith, God began to impress on people to begin to work on building a Mission. In 1990 the work was completed when Faith Baptist Mission began It's first worship service, with only 13 members present. After much growth the Mission became the Faith Baptist Church on July 31 1994. Today Faith Baptist Church of Myra has 190 members and is consistently in the top of the Pike Association in Baptisms each year. Today Faith Baptist Church of Myra is considering expansion of it's facilities. Truly we have witnessed a dream come true.
Pastor Dave Hammond's Testimony
I grew up in Georgetown, Kentucky and was saved at the age of 16. While attending Georgetown College I got away from God and got involved with the wrong crowd and started drinking and began a 14 year backslide in which I became more and more in sin and misery. My life became a wreck even though I was now a high school teacher and coach and did so for 7 years. Sports was now my first love and it replaced God as Lord. As God will do to those who get away from Him He will get our attention by chastisement. My dream came true in 1981 when I was named head basketball coach at Fleming-Neon High School. It seemed all went wrong , I didn't understand at the time but it was God's chastisement or spanking on my life. My lifestyle was wild, still drinking and totally in to myself and the greatest thing happened to me in the spring of 1984 . I was fired as teacher and Coach and I remember vivadly going home and was going to drink my deep sorrows away. It was that night that God spoke to me and Said " David come back home". I fell to my knees and said "God I have forgotten you all these years and my life is a wreck" and tonight I will come back and give my life totally to you because I have made a mess of mine. Thats what God had wanted to hear for so long. True blessing comes with true brokeness. It wasn't long after I rededicated my life to God. The joy I once knew was back that I had as a 16 year old boy. After working in the church for 4 years and seeing God take drinking from me and leading me to the greatest wife in the world, God called me into the ministry to preach his word. In 1991 God called me as Pastor of the Faith Baptist Church of Myra where I have been to this day. To see what God has done in my life and to watch him change life after life I truly regret the 14 years I lived for the devil, but through that backslide it has enabled me to be have a successful ministry to those whose lives are alot like mine of old. God never gives us up and this old prodigal learned that life in the hog pen is a life of slop and the only source of living is abiding in the Lord Jesus Christ .
