Pamunkey UMC - General Information
Pamunkey Methodist Church was founded in early 1832 as a 15 x 18 log
structure having a capacity of about 30 members. This building was used
until 1850 when the current sanctuary was constructed. We were one of
a number of churches on a circuit riders route, common in that time. We
have had a number of different pastorial situations during the years but
are now again on a ciruit or charge with one other UMC, that being
Tabernacle UMC.
We are located in the east end of New Kent County, Virginia approximately
35 miles east of Richmond and 7 miles west of West Point.
Directions to the Church:
From I-64 take exit 220 (West Point) onto SR-33 east
Travel approximately 1 1/2 miles to the stoplite at the intersection of
SR-249 and SR-33
Turn left on SR-249 west and travel approximately 1 mile to Pamunkey
Church Road
Turn left on Pamunkey Church Road (gravel) and travel approximately
1/2 mile
Pamunkey Church will be in a quiet setting on your right.
Once here you will find a small but enthusiastic congregation that will
welcome you with open hearts and make you feel as family, which in fact
you are, a member of GOD's family!
Annual Homecoming and Memorial Service
The third Sunday in May has become a tradition at Pamunkey UMC.
People come from near and far to worship and pay tribute to those
who have gone before us.
The service begins at 11:00AM with a worship service, business meeting,
rememberings of those who passed on during the previous year, and
much singing and joyful noise! After the service, lunch is served on
the grounds. Visitors need NOT bring anything, you are welcome to enjoy
our hospitality and friendship! After lunch we re-convine in the
sanctuary for more singing and praises.
This always promises to be a blessed and enjoyable event. EVERYONE is
welcome!
