Mission & Worship

Trinity Episcopal Church is a worshipping community of Christians responding to God's call to know Christ, to love Christ, and to serve in our time and in this place.

We are called, collectively and individually, to proclaim by word and example, the Good News of God in Christ, seeking and serving Christ in all persons, striving for justice and peace among all people, and respecting the dignity of every human being.

As faithful stewards of God's bounty, we pledge ourselves to an ever-deepening personal commitment to use our resources rightly in the service of others to his honor and glory, and we invite all persons to join us in giving themselves to this ministry of God's work in our community and his world.

WORSHIP AT TRINITY

Our Sunday morning worship services are the most important aspect of our community life. Trinity's services come from the 1979 Book of Common Prayer. We also celebrate the Holy Eucharist every Tuesday of the month and every Thursday of the month, the Holy Eucharist is celebrated with a Healing Service in St. Luke's Chapel. In addition, a full complement of special services celebrating and commemorating the Church year are conducted, replete with special music. From the solemn imposition of ashes on Ash Wednesday, Holy Week services, the Three Hours Service on Good Friday, to the joyous Christmas and Easter Festival Choral Eucharists, Trinity enjoys a rich liturgical tradition.

Another great Trinity tradition is an active laity. Through the Worship Commission, the regular and special services are initiated, planned and carried out, and the activities of the acolytes, lay readers, chalice bearers, Lay Eucharistic Ministers [LEM], choirs, Stephen Ministers, and Altar Guild are coordinated. Our clergy provide strong, spiritually-inspiring and intelligent preaching, which teaches and challenges us.

MUSIC AT TRINITY

Trinity is served by several choirs. The Trinity [adult] Choir consists of parishioners as well as four paid section leaders [Coventry Choir]who sing at the 9:00 a.m. Parish Eucharist. The Coventry Choir, which sings at the 11:15 a.m. service, is composed of the four section leaders as well as a few volunteer parishioners. Our Canterbury Choir is composed of third through seventh graders who sing once a month during the 9:00 a.m. service. The Carol Choir is a group of first and second graders. All Choirs rehease every Thursday evening from September through June. The Carillon Choir is our newly-formed Handbell Choir which consists of adults and teenagers. The Carillon Choir rehearses every Tuesday evening.

Our parish is fortunate to have talented parishioners who play instruments to accompany our anthems periodically.

Programs at Trinity

CHRISTIAN FORMATION

Trinity offers an excellent, wide-ranging program of Christian Education for parishioners of all ages. The program is overseen by Sue Legnani who in addition to her teaching background, has her Master's in Christian Education. There are approximately 170 children enrolled in the nursery through middle school Church School program.

Forty young people are active in our two youth groups - the Junior EYC and the Senior High. The Junor EYC meets at least once a month for fun and fellowship.

Our Adult Formation Hour is held from 10:15 until 11:15 a.m. on Sundays. During this hour, parishioners are given a choice of Bible Study, Adult discussions and lectures (on pertinent issues facing all of us), or they can choose to attend coffee hour. The Rector, The Rev. Philip W. Stowell, conducts the Adult Confirmation/Reception classes during Lent.

Other programs include our Advent Wreath Workshop during the first Sunday in Advent, Children's Christmas service, Jesse Tree and Epiphany programs and dinners, and a Lenten Program with potluck suppper. These are just a few of the well-attended, educational and entertaining programs attracting parishioners of all ages, families and individuals.

OUTREACH

Throughout its history, Trinity has been committed to outreach. Especially strong is Trinity's urban ministry, in partnership with churches and other organizations in nearby Camden. Funds are raised by two large rummage sales annually; solicitation of grants from the Vestry for special projects; distribution and collection of "Love Boxes" during Lent, specifically to support the Presiding Bishop's Fund for World Relief; and sponsorship, with other churches, of the annual CROP Walk to raise money for hunger projects; as well as donations and other fundraising activities.

Recipients of Trinity's outreach efforts are numerous and diverse.. The Evergreens, the Episcopal retirement community in Moorestown, benefits from Trinity volunteers who drive residents to shop, bank and do errands, and other volunteers who visit shut-ins. Good Samaritan Center, the largest ecumenical food and clothing distribution facility for the needy in Camden, receives volunteers, funds and clothing from Trinity. Cathedral Soup Kitchen, one of the largest hunger relief efforts in southern New Jersey, is provided with Trinity volunteers. Interfaith Caregivers provides services to frail and elderly and disabled in 20 communitites, to which Trinity provides volunteers.
