In accordance with Biblical Standards we attempt to reach out to the homeless and street people of our city. We view friendship and fellowship as a means to reach this part of our population for Christ.
Our Bible Studies and Worship services are basic Bible and presented in a manner so all who attend will understand God's message for them.
The ministry of Oak St. Mission is only four years old. The church itself is over one hundred years old. At one time this was a thriving church which Westwood Heights Free Methodist Church was begun from. Many thought that this church would close a few years ago but God gave Sandy and I a vision for this part of town. We began here with 6 people counting our daughter and we continued on faith. We have grown from that to have over 50 people in church on Sundays. We began a drop in center in the fellowship room after noticing that the street people had no place to go during the day. We offer free coffee and donuts and in the winter months hot lunches. God blessed our faith and continues to bless us in ways we can't discribe. Our people are mostly all street people, with a small group of very poor single parents and their children. We need you prayers. Any financial help can be sent to the church address, 727 Stockton St. Flint, Michigan. All donations are tax deductable. We have a Bible Study every Wednesday at 1:00 pm. This attended well and the lunch after is always special. Sunday School 10:00 am Sunday Church is at 11:00 am We have a lunch program which runs 5 days aweek. Anyone coming into the building between 11:30 am and 12:30 pm recieves a sack lunch which includes a sandwich, drink and a fruit. The need was seen and we responded to the hungry in our area. We pass out 100 to 150 lunches per day. Our drop-in center equipted with pool, table tennis, foos ball, cards, chess, TV, and an work out room. In the winter months we are usually extreemly busy with men and woman who need a worm place to be during the day. Part of our philosophy is that men must work. We have been helpful in seeing many of our men and women attain employment and keep it. All services at Oak St. Mission are free. Our food pantry is another popular place for those who are in need of food. We attempt to assist those who are truely in need Our Sunday Services are 9:45am with church at 11:00am. Dress is casual and all are welcome. We are in the middle of remodeling our kitchen to meet Health Dept. rules. God has blessed us with a new commercial stove and the ventilation system was donated and is being installed. We are exited about getting our kitchen finished. We will be able to prepare hot meals on site. We have a health clinic which is open on Fridays from 11:00am until 2:00 pm.. This clinic is staffed by a professional nurse along with nursing inturns from U.of M. Flint. We hope to have a complete health clinic up and running by this winter with Doctors on staff. At present we perform minor diagnostic work and refer clients to a local hospital. Transportation is provided. Another service is our "Mental Health Group Meeting" on Monday afternoons at 1:00 pm.. Anyone in the mental health community is welcome to attend. We operate totally on donations from God's people who have a heart for His people. Please if you have any questions leave a message and we will get back to you. E-mail can be sent to OSmission2@.juno.com We ask all of our area churches to begin food drives to run constantly. With welfare reform our food bill at the Genesee Food bank is very high. We need the help of God's people to provide food for those in need. Our sandwich program could use a church or small group to sponsor it so that we are able to continue to serve the hungry in our city.
