General

The Gereformeerde Kerken (Vrijgemaakt) are a body of 263 churches with about 123,000 members in the Netherlands which trace their roots to the Great Reformation of the 16th century. Most recently, these churches separated from the Gereformeerde Kerken (Synodaal) in hte 'Liberation' of 1944. The Gereformeerde Kerken subscribe to the Ecumenical Creeds from the first centuries of the Christian church: the Apostles' Creed, the Nicene Creed, and the Athanasian Creed; and have further defined the Reformed faith in the Three Forms of Unity: the Belgic Confession (1561), the Heidelberg Catechism (1563), and the Canons of Dort (1619). All office-bearers of our churches are required to subscribe to these standards. The Gereformeerde Kerken have a 'sister-church' relationship with a number of Churches outside of the Netherlands, including the Canadian and American Reformed Churches, the Free Reformed Churches of Australia, the Igreja Reformada do Brasil, the Free Reformed Churches of the Philippines, the Evangelical Presbyterian Church of Ireland, the Reformed Presbyterian Church of Ireland, the Gereja Gereja Reformasi di Indonesia N.T.T., the Presbyterian Church in Korea, the Free Church of Scotland, the Iglesia Criatiana de Fe Reformada, the Reformed Church in the United States, the Eglise Reformee Confessante au Zaire, Die Vrye Gereformeerde Kerke in Suid-Afrika. Other Ecclesiastical contacts are also maintained worldwide.

Gereformeerde Kerk te Lutten

Our church at Lutten is a small congregation of about 270 members. We are located in the east of the Netherlands, about 15 km. from the border with Germany. We are a growing congregation, with members ranging from newborn to 90 years old. Under the Lord's blessing, we have been able to initiate a ministry for refugees from the refugee centre 'de Eik' in Slagharen, about 2 km away. This has come about in part because our pastor, Ds. J. Plug, speaks English fluently. He was born of Dutch parents in Australia, and grew up overseas. He received his theological training at the Theological College of the Canadian Reformed Churches. Should you ever wish to visit one of our services during your stay in the Netherlands, you are most welcome. An English summary of the sermon will be provided upon request.
