Welcome

To all who search for God in truth and in sincerity, to all who are weary and need rest, to all who mourn and need comfort, to all who sin and need a Savior, to all who are lonely and need companionship, to all who seek to serve their fellow man, this Church opens wide her doors and in the name of Jesus, bids you welcome. We enjoy a unique spiritual encouragement through the beautiful music generated by our 2000 pipe organ. Played by the masterful Ronald Osborne.
WE ALSO INVITE THE CHILDREN AND YOUTH AGES FIVE THROUGH SEVENTEEN TO WORSHIP IN OUR JUNIOR CHURCH WHERE THEY ARE OFFERED A WORSHIP EXPERENCE DESIGNED ESPECIALLY FOR THEM.

KIAFRIKA TAALIMU SHULE

KiAfrika Taalimu Shule (African Knowledge School) is located at St. Catherine A.M.E. Zion Church, 19 Lincoln Avenue, New Rochelle, New York and has existed since 1989 operating with a support staff of 30 to 40 volunteers. The Shule meets on Saturdays, excluding holidays, from September 20 through May 16, 1998, from 10:00 a.m to 2:00 p.m. The Shule is a community based school that serves children, ages 6 and up, from throughout Westchester and the Bronx. The Shule teaches children about the rich heritage of Africa. The Afrocentric syllabus includes the study of African World History, African American History, Arts and Crafts, African Dance, Drama, Music, KiSwahili, field trips and visiting lecturers. A highlight of the 1997-1998 Shule will be the Rites of Passage Program for students grades 5 and up, centered around the seven principles of the Nguzo Saba, presenting activities that have been selected to build an awareness and understanding of self and the extended family. The Rites of Passage is a transformation tradition as a prelude to manhood and womanhood. The Shule is seeking volunteers, especially men, for teaching and nonteaching positions as well as mentors for the 1997-1998 school year. All volunteers will receive training in the KTS curriculum and classroom management skills.
