Christian Preschool and Kindergarten

The First United Presbyterian Church of Westminster sponsors a Maryland State Certified Preschool and Kindergarten for ages 2 thru 5. It has a staff of 14 under the leadership of Rae Lyburn, Preschool Director. Total enrollment is approximately 250. A new Kindergarten Classroom will open in the Fall of 1997 allowing expansion of the number of students we can enroll. It is open to all children in the community. The First United Presbyterian Church of Westminster, Maryland is a dynamic, growing congregation geographically located in the center of Carroll County, Maryland. Founded in 1960, the church has more than doubled under the leadership of Senior Pastor Steven Robert Fleming who began his ministry in Westminster in April of 1987. Pastor Fleming has his Doctor of Ministry degree from Union Theological Seminary in Richmond, Virginia, and previously served churches in Virginia, Arkansas, and Pennsylvania. Associate Pastor Stella Dempski, who completed a dual-degree from Union Seminary and Presbyterian School of Christian Education in Richmond, joined the church staff in September 1995 with a specilization in Education, Youth, Evangelism and Discipleship. Membership is nearly 500 adults, with an additional 200 children and youth enrolled in the Christian Education program of the church (does not include enrollment the Preschool and Kindergarten program). The church added a new Sanctuary, offices, choir suite, gymnasium and parking in 1992-1993 to meet the growth of the congregation and expand its ministry to the community.
