Success - The Importance of Speech
Sometimes the things that we say get us into trouble. Peter, upon
hearing that his leader, his Christ, would have to suffer, be rejected
and be killed, gave a knee jerk reaction. Peter kicked in his tongue
before his brain and faith. We must learn to speak in faith and not
fear. We all have had those experiences where we wish we could take
back something we said. The words seem to jump off of our tongue
before we even know what we are saying, almost like someone else is
speaking. Peter had just said that Jesus was the Christ and now Jesus
is saying to him, "get behind me Satan..." What we say as believers
has power to affect how others see God and us. We are not speaking on
behalf of ourselves any longer. With a faith that God is in us through
Jesus Christ's death and resurrection we are his mouth. Our words
will reflect if we are ashamed of him or not. We are called to bless
the cross of Christ with our lives and our words. The success of the
body of Christ, in part, is put into our mouth. We need to use our
words wisely.
Prayer:
The heavens are telling the glory of God. All of creation speaks of
your power and majesty, ever present Lord. Even the unseen things, the
distant stars, and the tiniest particles of matter proclaim volumes
and declare the wonder that is yours alone. Help us speak faithfully
of all your do. Help us to speak wisely in all we say. Help us use the
gift of speech to bring you glory. Let the words of our mouths and the
meditation of our hearts be acceptable in your sight, O Lord, our rock
and our redeemer. Amen.
