Mission Statement

The Mission of St. Mark's Church is to continue to grow in following our Lord Jesus Chirst as a United Parish, welcoming and serving one another and the broader community and celebrating the presence of Christ in every person.

Church History

St. Mark's Church was originally a "Chapel of Ease" to St. Mary Anne's Church in North East. The cornerstone was laid on April 3, 1844 by the Bishop of Maryland on land donated by the neighboring Gale Family. The cemetery was originally that families private burying ground. The Chapel was consecrated in August of 1845 adn The Reverend Richard Whittingham, Jr. became its Deacon and Assistant to the Rector at St. Mary Anne's. In 1913, St. Mark's was separated from St. Mary Anne's and established as Susquehanna Parish(now the Diocese of Easton). The Parish House was named for Howard Tipton, a dedicated lay worker in the Parish. Historic St. Mark's Church serves a rapidly growing western Cecil County. It provides a spritual home, vital Christian fellowship and important community services for the entire Susqehanna Parish.
