Church Mission Statement

First Decatur African Methodist Episcopal Zion Church most important committment is to the preaching of the gospel to save souls. We do not control the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit controls us. He moves within our church to accomplish His will. First Decatur is a member of the Fayette-Jasper District, North Alabama Conference/ Alabama-Florida Episcopal District of the A.M.E. Zion Church. Founded in 1796, the AME Zion Church is the home church of Harriet Tubman and other freedom fighters. It is known as the "Freedom Church". The denomination has approximately 1.5 million members with churches on all five continents, including growing congregations in India, Nigeria, England, and Guyana,(Source: Glenmary Research Center Report on "Churches and Church Membership").

We welcome all people regardless of race, color, or religious affiliation. We believe in one God, one faith, one baptism. Our message is Christ-centered. In it you will find rest for your soul.
