Grace Apostolic World Wide Ministry - History

Grace Apostolic Church held its first Sunday worship service on Sunday, May 4, 1986 in Omaha, Nebraska at a storefront near 33rd and Parker Streets in Omaha. Prior to this service, Pastor Barlowe and his wife Deborah distributed flyers to people all over Omaha announcing the start of a new ministry. At the first service, Pastor Barlowe and Deborah found themselves alone at services with one person other than their immediate family. His first reaction was that he close up shop and give up. He decided to weather this storm and continue to reach for souls. At the second service, more people came and this gave him hope that he was in the right place, at the right time and that provisions for this ministry had been made.

The name Grace Apostolic was chosen because Pastor Barlowe had attended a church with the same name in Indianapolis, IN during his early Christian life. Because of the impact Grace Apostolic in Indianapolis made on him, he chose the same name for his church.

The first few years were very hard for Pastor Barlowe and his family and on numerous occassions, he had to make choices about staying true to his call from God to be a Pastor or give up. He was working full time at the Post Office as a mail carrier, taking college courses and trying to be a full-time pastor and provider for his family. In 1989, through a great faith move, he decided to leave the Post Office and become a full-time Pastor without trying to balance school and a full time job. It was after he left the Post Office that the membership at Grace began to grow 30, 60, 100 fold.

The church encountered six moves after that time to accomodate for the growing numbers of people in attendance at each service. At the fifth location - Oak Creek Inn, over 200 people joined. In September of 1993, Grace moved to its current location at 2216 Military Avenue in Omaha.

In 1994, Pastor Barlowe founded Grace Apostolic World Wide Ministries, Inc. (GAWWM) and became the presiding Bishop for this organization. Since establishing GAWWM, the following ministries have been birthed: Grace Apostolic at Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, Grace Community in Dubuque, Iowa and Miracle Apostolic in Dallas, Texas. Because of the annointing on his life, Bishop Barlowe has been asked to start and/or re-vitalize ministries in Decatur, Illinois, Duluth, Minnesota, Wichita, Kansas and other locations around the world including Spanish speaking ministries in Costa Rica, Guatemala and Nicaragua.

Bishop Barlowe is a laborer and Grace Apostolic is a "Trauma Center" for gang members, drug addicts, prostitutes, and the broken hearted. People from ALL walks of life, socioeconomic statuses, races and backgrounds can come to Grace and be healed and take advantage of the blessings that a walk with the Lord Jesus Christ can offer. Grace Apostolic is one of the only places in the world that Gang Members and Corporate Executives can praise and magnify God together in a non-threatening atmosphere.

Bishop Barlowe has received numerous awards and citations for his community service and involvement including: Jefferson Award - KMTV-3 (1992), Mayors Advisor Board Against Gangs and Drugs, Police Review Board, Mayor's Clergy Relations Board, Omaha YMCA Board, and Teen Facilitator at North High School (1991-1992). During the last 10 years, Grace Apostolic has grown rapidly and to accomodate the membership, the church has encountered seven transitions. The seventh location is the current one at 2216 Military Avenue in Omaha, Nebraska.
