We do not control the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit controls us. He moves within our church to accomplish His will. First Decatur is a member of the Fayette-Jasper District, North Alabama Conference/ Alabama-Florida Episcopal District of the A.M.E. Zion Church. Founded in 1796, the AME Zion Church is the home church of Harriet Tubman and other freedom fighters. It is known as the "Freedom Church". The denomination has approximately 1.5 million members with churches on all five continents, including growing congregations in India, Nigeria, England, and Guyana,(Source: Glenmary Research Center Report on "Churches and Church Membership"). <br>
