Being a Child of God

Last month, I was blessed to be able to attend Promise Keepers' "Stand in the Gap" event held in Washington D.C. Traveling all night the night before on a chartered bus, my group arrived in D.C. just before dawn that Saturday morning. During the hours leading up to the event itself, God just made His presence known. Praises rang from songs being sung on the Metro coming into the city, men fellowshipping with each other as the Mall continually packed in and beyond, men praying and reading their bibles, and the sheer beauty of the dawn and morning hours just couldn't have been painted any better.

As the event got under way, everyone set aside their prejudices worshipping the Lord in one accord. The whole event can be best described as a time of inner soul searching and reflection; confession of our sins and shortcomings; and prayer for ourselves, our families, our brothers, our churches, our nation and the world. And God blessed our hearts as we dedicated ourselves to take our stand as true men of integrity.

The truest blessing of all occurred after the event had come to a close and the media began its efforts to turn it into a politically based event. The persecution that came through various sources (including the Sunday news shows like "This Week" and "Meet the Press", and Andy Rooney's comments on "60 Minutes") just helped affirm that God was at the center of it all.

All of this helps to emphasize just how wonderful and mighty our God trully is. To be blessed in the best, and worst, of circumstances while worshipping the Creator of the universe is something I wouldn't trade for all the wealth and power in the world. Just think, to even be called a Christian - a follower of Christ - is an honor beyond our own recognition.

If you don't know that honor, then I beseech you to search your heart and seek God's face. Then you too can become a child of the almighty King of kings and Lord of lords, the one and only God. Become a child of the One who rules the Universe.
