"Love the Lord your God..."

What is your purpose in life? What is your spritual focus? Are they the same? And if they are the same, is it aimed too low?

An awful lot of people miss out on the true joy of Christianity because they have their priorities wrong. Some Christians never move past their salvation experience to nourish themselves in the Word of God. Some just get caught up in the social act of fellowship, never seeking spiritual growth. These people lose out on quite a bit.

Other Christians may focus totally on one of many church programs as though that is their ultimate purpose for life -- i.e. evangelism, music, etc. They are closer to the mark; but unless what they do is being done out of their love for the Lord, they are little better than the Pharisees of old. As a result, their lives suffer in terms of their overall spiritual well-being.

Jesus was a well-rounded individual when it came to His spiritual well-being. He never focused entirely on just one area of service. Instead, He focused all of His attention on God the Father. When a Pharisee asked Jesus what the greatest and most important commandment was, Jesus answered with, "'Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.'... And the second is like it: 'Love your neighbor as yourself.' All the Law and the Prophets hang on these two commandments." Likewise every form of service we can offer God hangs on these two points.

Our sole purpose in life should be to serve God. If we love Him with all that we are, the rest will fall in place naturally. Remember, Jesus focused all of His attention on God the Father. If your focus is elsewhere, then you might want to re-examine it -- placing your aim too low could cause you to miss the mark.

Don't fall short on what God has in store for you. Live life to the fullest -- love Him with all your heart, soul and mind; and, the blessings of life will overflow.
