Distortions of the Truth
Saw an interesting article in the newspaper on December 22 entitled "Faith on the
rise. Poll finds more people believing in God." On the surface the casual Christian
reader might take that as good news, but let me assure you the eleven percent increase
in people professing to believe in God (mentioned in the article) doesn't necessarily
point to an eleven percent increase in the number of people who believe in Christ. James
probably pointed out this flaw better than anyone else in James 2:19 when he stated that
a simple belief in God is meaningless - it's not enough.
Salvation does not come through belief that God exists. It only comes through the
acknowledgement that Jesus Christ is Lord and believing that God raised him from the
dead. There is quite a difference in the two, and the world needs to be aware of it.
So don't allow yourself to become apathetic over false and misleading articles put
out my the media. Be wary of distortions on the truth, and make every effort to fight
those distortions with the truth - "...and the truth will set you free."
