St.Timothy
Evangelical Lutheran Church |
St. Timothy Lutheran Church is a Christ-centered community of believers called and empowered by God to use our special and varied gifts to build and proclaim Christ's kingdom. In worship we believe we are saved by grace which sets us free to thank and praise God. By our faith we serve others and equip young and old to proclaim the Gospel in their daily lives through increased understanding of Scripture. By the Holy Spirit working through us, we build the body of Christ and share the Good News of God's love.
St. Timothy has a hometown community active atmosphere within the hubbub of a growing metropolis. In addition to Sunday services, St. Timothy conducts a Wonderful Wednesday program that includes a light evening meal, youth activities, adult seminars, and an evening service.
The heart beat of the Christian life is our service of praise and the
gift of forgiveness offered each Sunday for the Christian pilgrim in worship.
St. Timothy's regular Sunday services, year round, are 8:30 and 11:00 a.m.
Wednesday evening services are held at 7:30 p.m. following a light meal
and "Wonderful Wednesday" activities.
Eucharist or Holy Communion is celebrated in worship service on the first
and third Sunday of each month and all festivals.
Our worship experience includes active lay leadership with lay women and
men serving as Assisting Ministers, Communion Servers, Lectors, and Ushers.
Our Acolyte program includes Junior High and Senior High School students.

Social Ministry
The food program distributes about 16,000 pounds
of food annually.
We shelter the homeless, in cooperation with the Volunteers of America,
twice annually.
We support other ministries in the Tidewater area, including the Job Bank,
the Human Warmth Program, Church Social Ministries Resource Center, Lutheran
Council of Tidewater, and the International Seaman's House.
Youth Ministry
Our youth Program is comprised of a Junior Youth Group (7th-9th graders) and a Senior Youth Group (10th-12th graders.) The program consists of worship, service projects, study groups and recreational activities.
Lutheran Church Women meet monthly in two circles (morning and evening)
and quarterly in a combined meeting. The ELCW serves the need of St. Timothy
and its members through offering education, social and worship opportunities.
Lutheran Church Men organize many social activities and participate in
service projects.
AAL Branch 6936 is a social benefit society organized to enhance the ministry
of our congregation and serve the social ministry needs of our community.
We have two adult fellowship groups (one for younger adults and one for adults of all ages), which meet on a regular basis for social fellowship.
